COVID PROTOCOLS as of August 17, 2021
SCCT is committed to the health and safety of our patrons, casts, crews, students and staff. The CDC and DHEC currently recommend universal indoor masking when students age 2 and older are present. In accordance with these recommendations, we at SCCT feel it necessary to make the following updates to our COVID protocols in our efforts to keep everyone safe within our premises.
- Students will be required to wear masks whenever indoors at SCCT.
- SCCT teaching artists will be required to wear masks while teaching classes at SCCT.
- Any parent/guardian (or sibling over the age of 2) of one of our students who opts to come into the building will be required to wear a mask to enter and while inside the building.
In addition to the mask requirements, five bipolar ionization units have been installed into all of our HVAC air handlers to ensure that everyone in our facility has access to the cleanest, safest, and healthiest air possible. Surface disinfection will happen between performances. Our theatre is sanitized with an electrostatic sprayer using an EPA-approved, food safe biocide designed to kill coronavirus on surfaces within minutes. Hand sanitizer stations are placed throughout the facility.
We will continue to monitor the COVID situation in our area and reserve the right to make adjustments to safety protocols accordingly.
Sundays, September 12-December 12 | 5:00 – 6:15 PM | Betsy Bisson | $0 SOLD OUT to new students
For those of you who are interested, we provide free acting workshops for adults—college-age and up. Offered at no cost, but if you have time to put up posters, count fliers, organize costumes for us, etc—just do those things as you can — We’ll send out emails announcing our need, and if you can help, please do.
It’s a chance for beginners to seasoned actors to get together to learn more about acting, auditioning, the rehearsal process, monologue preparation and whatever the student has questions about. Betsy Bisson is the Education Director at SCCT and has 30 + years experience teaching acting.
The first classes new students (limited to 12) must attend in order to be assigned material to work on for the rest of the semester (past students are welcome to come to these classes too as review). (Due to a building conflict on Sept 26, the first 2 classes will be 2 hours each to cover the foundation material – 5-7pm.) The bulk of the formal teaching occurs in the beginning of the semester, later classes mainly consist of rehearsing material and performing for class for critique. You are also welcome to just come and listen to lecture or participate in game/exercises and not perform, but the only way to learn to act is to actually go through the process (selecting material, doing the background character work, experimenting with physical and vocal characteristics, memorizing, developing intentions/obstacles, refining performance technique, receiving critiques, etc.). Due to the trust built through the ensemble exercises and classes at the beginning of the semester, it is difficult to admit new students/observers mid-semester. Please wait for the next semester (Fall or Spring) to enroll.
We DO have an informal performance at the end of the semester (voluntary participation—you can elect not to perform), and friends and family are welcome to attend.
We call it AA (because no one can give you grief for going to an AA meeting) and it meets on Sunday evenings from 5:00-6:15ish pm.
(If you attended a previous semester and performed in the sharing, you are considered a Returning Student. You are welcome to attend the first classes for new students as a review, but it is not required. Please email [email protected], if you are planning to attend this semester, so she knows to expect you and can start finding material for you. Returning students should NOT sign up online as there is a firm 12 person limit for the new students.)
