These classes are especially good for students with prior theatrical class experience. A recommendation from your current SCCT instructor or at least two semesters of Process Acting, Half-Day Acting, or 3rd Stage level classes with us, or the equivalent at another teaching theatre is required. Students who come into this class will have experience with basic theatre concepts and an understanding of the areas of the stage. This will allow the group to hone acting skills through high-energy theatre games, improvisation, and challenging activities. We work to deepen character development and expand theatrical terminology as well as engage in rehearsals for a performance. Actors will work on a scripted piece so some reading skills are necessary. Each class will produce a short performance for a “sharing” at the end of the session.
Before moving into a PRODUCTION level class students should be able to: name the parts of the stage, use abbreviations for stage directions, be able to define basic theatrical terms, understand CROoWw, be familiar with Lessac energies and Laban qualities as well as wanting to be given more responsibilities/homework and be willing to repeat material weekly for rehearsal. Your current SCCT teacher is always the best reference for whether your child is ready to move up and you should email to them or talk to them at the final day sharing regarding your child’s progression if you have questions.
This class requires at-home parental support for line-learning as well as helping your child develop a simple, suggested costume for the final “sharing.” Absenteeism is strongly discouraged. This class is 12 weeks long – final class is May 29th (we do Skip for Spring Break).
