Yes! You can read more about virtual auditions and how to submit your video and information at this link.
Each audition will differ based on the type of show, the cast needed, and the director’s requirements. Therefore, you must check the specific Audition Call for each specific production you are interested in. Audition requirements will be posted on the audition page of our website. If auditioning for a musical for the first time, you may want to review this document for tips on choosing your audition song.
If you are auditioning for a musical you should bring a copy of your sheet music for the accompanist as well as a copy of your headshot and resume if you did not upload them with your audition form when you signed up.
If you are auditioning for a musical, please also prepare a monologue.
Please note, you will need to bring sheet music for the accompanist as no acapella auditions are allowed. If you have further questions regarding auditions, email auditions@scchildrenstheatre.org
Not at all! You are not required to take SCCT classes to audition or be cast in a production. We do, however, encourage participating in theatre training. It’s like any other form of training. It takes practice to hone the craft – the more you do it, the better you get.
When preparing for your audition appointment, please always dress neatly and comfortably.
If you are auditioning for a musical you should bring a copy of your sheet music for the accompanist as well as a copy of your headshot and resume if you did not upload them with your audition form when you signed up.
No. Parents are welcome to accompany you before and after the audition, and are welcome to stay in the Education Lobby during the audition.
We will have a list displayed on the day of your auditions to tell you who will be in the room with you! Generally it is the director, the music director for the shows that are auditioning that day, and the accompanist.
A dance call is part of the audition process where performers are taught a short choreographed routine on the spot and asked to perform it.
It gives directors a chance to see how each actor moves, follows directions, and expresses themselves through dance.
For the general dance call on Sunday, May 17th at SCCT, please wear comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes that will allow you to move. Skirts/dresses and open-toed shoes are not recommended.
Adult Call: 1-2:30pm
Student Call: 3-4:30pm
These will be filmed and shared with all creative teams
Rylee McGirr, who is the choreographer for Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, will run the call.
If you are unable to attend the in-person call, please indicate that on your audition form when asked. You will be sent a link to upload a virtual dance call. Video instruction of the dance will be sent to you as well.
The “callback” is a second (sometimes third, fourth or even fifth) audition during which the selection process becomes more specific. At a callback, you will usually be asked to read additional scenes from the show, perform music from the score, or learn a dance combination. The callback is also an opportunity for the director(s) to see and hear different combinations of performers.
Not being called back does not always mean that you aren’t being cast in a show. Sometimes a callback is needed for a director to look at the way specific groups of people fit together, sometimes not.
If you are cast in a show, you will receive an email from SCCT Production Stage Manager, Meg Kegeris. Callbacks may be scheduled on an as needed basis throughout the season, sometimes several months after the initial audition. If your availability changes for a production or you are being considered for a role at another company, email meghan@scchildrenstheatre.org to check on your current consideration status.
You will always hear from SCCT whether or not you have been cast.
Auditioning is a great introduction to South Carolina Children’s Theatre, but the best ways to get involved at SCCT are by participating in classes or volunteering. Both ways provide the opportunity to learn the essentials of bringing a production to life.
Absolutely! If you can’t attend in person, you can submit a video audition by emailing SCCT Production Stage Manager Meghan Kegeris at auditions@scchildrenstheatre.org
Rehearsal times vary based on the type of production, directors, and individual roles. Most rehearsals are scheduled on Sunday, from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and Monday through Thursday, from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm the two months leading up to opening night. Rehearsal schedules are subject to change.
Each show has an overview of dates for all rehearsals, techs, and performances above. Typically, we can work around minor conflicts in the availability of the actors we cast. Sometimes, however, an actor’s availability becomes the final deciding factor in casting, so it is always wise to be honest about your schedule.
Please note that conflicts during tech and performances are generally not allowed.
