WORKSHOPS:  KID’S NIGHT OUT/ WORKDAY

Workday Workshop | K5-5th

So… Mom and Dad don’t have a break even though your school does… Come to SCCT and play with us!  Games and activities are designed to keep students engaged and entertained, with exercises and activities used in our regular session classes to explore group problem solving, be seen and heard in front of an audience, explore areas of the stage, character development, etc.  These classes are meant to engage the child in a group environment and allow the parent some guilt-free time to complete their work/appointments. These classes are more general and aren’t themed per day. They will allow for various ages/interests and may also include craft time. Designed to keep excited kids active and having fun. There will be no “sharing” recording for parents; but there will be socialization, interaction, and fun!

We’ll start the night with drama activities for a wide range of ages and experience levels, and then we’ll play crafts, enjoy a snack of milk and cookies* and snuggle down for the evening to watch a video. Pajamas that cover or lounge pants are encouraged, and be sure they have their favorite blankets and pillows-we hope to have them in sleepy mode by the time you pick them up.

IMPROV

Process Improv! – Acting without a Script | 5th-10th

Look, Mom, no script! Creative impulses find the perfect landing spot in improv games.

Be bold! This class is focused on improvisation training and performance.  The objective is for the actor to become comfortable acting without a script.  Studying improvisation can offer numerous benefits for teenagers, extending beyond the realm of performing arts. It is a good class for those wanting to further their scene study and character development skills and stretch and explore their imagination and creativity.  Also good for students interested in writing and storytelling. Improvisation training improves performance skills– allowing students to receive all the information around them before their own choices.  Be prepared to laugh and to laugh at yourself, too!

TECHNICAL THEATRE

How did they do that!? Discover tricks of the trade and make your own stage magic. Did you know that we use our students as members of our run crew for ALL our productions? Every show you see has dedicated young people running the spotlights, handling the backstage set moves or prop handoffs, quick changing costumes, and sometimes even running the light board or body mics. It’s a whole other world of theatre, and no show can operate without it.  Students in this class will also be invited to observe weekend technical rehearsals for shows that open during the semester on the Bell Stage.
