YOUR SONG, YOUR STORY: Choosing Music That Fits You
Let’s talk musicals and find material that will work for YOU. We will also discuss the styles of music you should have ready for auditions…what should be in YOUR book.
Fri, January 23 – 4:30-6:30 | Katie Stewart
DANCE AUDITIONS: Fake It Till You Make It
This won’t be an intense dance class, so don’t be worried… It would be a benefit to anyone interested in doing an audition-focused dance class in a safe space. Some of the class will be for folks looking to “fake” dance auditions. Are you a skilled dancer? Great, come to the class! You’re not a skilled dancer? Great, come to the class! Would you rather die than do a dance audition? Great, come to the class!
Fri, January 30 – 4:30-5:30 | Traysie Amick
ACTOR’S GYM/MONOLOGUE SLAM
Audition season is coming up, so this could be a fantastic opportunity for some prep work! Students need to bring a memorize piece(s) to the workshop.
Mon, February 16 – 6:30-8:30 | Clint Walker, Kevin Frazier & Erin Gill
TALKING WITH THE DESIGNERS OF ELEPHANT & PIGGIE
This is a terrific opportunity to pick the brains of some designers in a practical way since we are producing their designs this season!
Sun, March 1 – 4:30-6:30 | Traysie Amick
BEING AN ACTOR DIRECTOR’S WANT TO WORK WITH
Give them what they want! So many talented actors will lose an opportunity because they did not audition well. Exercises in this workshop will allow students to explore the best ways to approach an audition. We will work on cold reading, etiquette, what to do if you are given a correction, and even discuss what to wear! No preparation is needed, but a notebook and pencil will come in handy.
Sat, March 7 11am-1pm Studio | Peggy Trecker White & Steve Griner
AUDITION SONG PREP
Let’s get that audition song ready! Work with SCCT’s Artistic Director on your prepared audition material and hone it for your best audition. Please prepare 16-32 bars of a song. All students should bring sheet music for the accompanist as well as their book of music (if you have one). The material should be ready to work (memorized).
Fri, March 13 – 4:30-6:30 | Lobby |Lauren French
COMMEDIA!!!
Commedia is an old, Italian form of theatre that dealt heavily with Stock Character movements and vocals as well as improvised scenario. Commedia isn’t performed much currently, and this is a FANTASTIC opportunity to learn about and practice this type of theatre with Lauren, who trained in Commedia in Italy! Terrific for big, bold character choices and comedic storytelling (that can be applied to your character work OUTSIDE of Commedia).
Mon, April 6 – 1-3pm (GCS Workday) | Lobby | Hailie Gold & Natalie McElhinny (both graduated SCCT students, now Teaching Artists)
UNDERSTANDING THE SHAKESPEARE MONOLOGUE
Need to get better at understanding Shakespeare? Maybe you will need to have a classical monologue for an upcoming audition? Do Shakespeare’s words just seem like a foreign language? We’re here to help. We LOVE the language of The Bard and are happy to share that love with you and make the words something you understand and can get excited about! If you have a monologue already, please bring it, but we will also have some material to work with in class.
Fri, Apr 17 – 4:30-6:30 | Act 1/Lobby/Conference Room (KNO 6-10) | Katie, Peggy & Betsy
STAGE MANAGEMENT VS PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT VS ARTS ADMINISTRATION
Jobs in Arts Administration specifically for Theatre and how they function: general hierarchy, Stage Management vs Production Management, the role of the Production Stage Manager, how the Artistic Director leads the artistic choices, budgeting & calendars. I know it sounds very business-y, but that’s show business!
We also expect to have more during the summer — punch cards from Fall and Spring will still work!
