ONStage

Embark on the journey to create a show!

ONStage offers young actors the opportunity to experience a more professional rehearsal and production process. Designed in two formats for different age groups, ONStage offers advanced students the opportunity to build and perform a fully produced play with an ensemble.

The younger age group performs multiple times and learns about the tech process. The older age group learns about devising new plays with an ensemble and performs their material twice.

For those interested in behind-the-scenes work, older students can also apply for Mentorship roles to support younger ONStage performers and participate as tech crew.

2nd-6th Grade

Wednesdays 4:45-6:30 PM | Aug 28-Dec 21 (SKIP Nov 27)   | Traysie Amick, Lauren Stewart & Hailie Gold | $280

For anyone who is not a veteran parent of ONStage, please watch this (light-hearted – good for your child to watch too) Informational Video BEFORE signing up to audition to determine if this class is the right fit for your child. It is essential to understand the commitment expectations and goals of the class. It also reviews what students can expect in the audition, as well as what tech week entails and performance expectations.

MANDATORY Audition Wednesday, August 12th from 5-6:30pm.

You must sign up to receive an audition spot.

For “Your Name,” please enter your actor’s name and information. Later in the form, you will enter the parent/guardian’s name and information.

Ready to be “up there,” too? Earn that applause by finding the fun in fundamentals!  Here’s an opportunity for experienced young actors to understand the effort involved in “being up there.”

Stories are adapted for a fully produced weekend run open to the public. The age range allows students to take on roles with a lot of responsibility or supporting characters. Students start the rehearsal process already cast in their roles, developing characters, and making acting choices guided by director, Traysie Amick, assistant director, Hailie Gold, and acting coach, Lauren Wilson Stewart.

Additionally, they will observe experienced young artists (Mentors/Tech Crew) handling backstage and production tasks, who model rehearsal behavior. Students will learn useful techniques during “down-time” at rehearsal from these dedicated teens and together they will form a close-knit group with one goal: to tell a great story!

Before the audition, it is imperative to check with the leaders of other extracurricular activities and in-school groups to ensure that they can discuss possible conflicts with you.  Please be sure they are aware of the dates and times of this commitment. (Most importantly, Tech Week Saturday, Nov 14-Thursday, Nov 19, 2026, and the Performances on Friday, Nov 20 & Saturday, Nov 21, 2026, as attendance is always mandatory for cast members on these dates.)

For the audition, students will be guided through acting exercises that will include following directions, understanding stage areas, demonstrating vocal projection, and showing physical choices for characterization. No reading is involved in this audition. This less stressful way of auditioning gives the director a better understanding of how actors work together and take direction.  Actors who demonstrate an appropriate skill level will then be invited to take the class as pre-cast participants.

All auditionees receive a written assessment, which can be used to focus efforts at improvement through other classes or during the rehearsal process. (For reference, this is not typically provided at most auditions.) The cast list will be announced by Sun, August 16th via email, and students who are NOT cast will still be able to enroll in another Process class with a $25 discount. (Code will be sent with the assessment) or Production class (as available). Production classes do not receive a discount.

We ask that students have completed at least three semesters of theatre instruction. At least one of these needs to be Exploration or Process Acting from SCCT. Please understand that PRODUCTION-level classes are NOT appropriate for everyone—they require…

  •        CONSISTENT class attendance  tardiness/absenteeism will not be tolerated except in the event of contagious sickness or another specific  emergency, and you must contact the teacher ASAP
  •        Outside of class memorization and homework assignments
  •        Focus, concentration in class, and appropriate class behavior
  •        Teamwork, collaboration, and support of other students
  •        Commitment to planned performances
  •        Students are expected to bring a notebook and pencil to every class

Students who are cast will need to attend class consistently—absences and tardies are strongly discouraged as it impacts the whole class! It is imperative to check with leaders of other extra-curricular activities and in-school groups to make sure that they can share possible conflicts with you before the audition and are also aware of the dates and times of this commitment.

**Maybe you have an interest in behind-the-scenes and learning more about the process of putting a show together?  Then you might be interested in… Mentors/Tech Crew for Grades 6-12 – please contact Traysie Amick traysie@scchildrenstheatre.org BEFORE auditions if you are interested in assisting the ONStage class each week through the performances. Mentors come 30 minutes before the actual class time (so 4:30 ish on Wednesdays) to help prepare material for the class starting at 5:00pm.  You will mentor the younger students during the rehearsal process (help with writing down blocking, developing character, rehearsing lines, etc.) and become the full run crew for the tech rehearsals and performances.  There is no cost for this learning experience, but YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE TO COMMIT TO THE WHOLE SEMESTER with minimal expected absences (none allowed during tech/performances). Join the club! Collaborate with kindred spirits to create something inspired.

6th-12th Grade

MANDATORY Audition FOR ALL STUDENTS! Monday, August 10th, 2026, from 4:30-6:30pm.

Mondays 4:30-6:30 | Aug 10-Nov 21 (SKIP Sept 7) | Jesse Siak | $330

Join the club! Collaborate with kindred spirits to create something inspired.

For this grade level, it is a class created to hopefully combine students from our former Studio A Ensemble, former or current Mentors from the Wednesday younger ONStage class, and older area students who want a chance to perform with older peers. Taught by Jesse Siak, SCCT Education Programs Manager, Professional Actor, and Bell Stage Director. He will create a semester focused on honing performance skills and devising presentation material. Material is designed to evolve with the ensemble as students master specific facets of theatre training over the course of the semester.

For the audition, students will be required to present a 30-60 second MEMORIZED monologue, demonstrating vocal projection and vocal/physical choices for characterization. We may do some reading of lines during this audition, but students will not be judged on how well they can read, but how well they can make big, bold character choices. Students will also be guided through various acting/ensemble building exercises. Actors who demonstrate an appropriate skill level will then be invited to join ONStage 6th-12th.

Follow this link to see some sample monologues.

You can choose to do a monologue from our selection, or you can do something different. The most important thing is to do a monologue you connect with and enjoy on some level. If you have any questions about monologue selection, please email jesse@scchildrenstheatre.org.

Students who are not accepted into ONStage will receive a written assessment, which can be used to focus efforts at improvement through other classes or during the rehearsal process. (For reference, this is not typically provided at most auditions.) Students who are accepted into ONStage will receive an in-person assessment during the first few weeks of class. The cast list will be announced by Tues, August 11th via email, and students who are NOT cast will still be able to enroll in another Process class with a $25 discount. (Code will be sent with the assessment) or Production class (as available). Production classes do not have a discount.

Tech will likely be handled during regular Monday class time, but please try to keep November 17, 18 & 19 available from 7-8:30 for possible rehearsal needs. Just let your teacher know about conflicts for those dates.

Family and friends are invited to live performances on Fri, Nov 20 at 7:00pm and Sat, Nov 21 at 4:30pm.  Please note these dates on your calendar now!

Teacher recommendation required!
