Tech: Costumes for JUNGLE BOOK Kids | Rising 6th-12th

A chance to explore the design side of theatre costuming. How to support the essentials needed by the action, but also conceptualize to support the production and make an artistic statement. Creative thinking as well as functionality. Basic hand sewing and alterations are likely, but no machine sewing. The class will work collaboratively to create the costumes for the student performers for the older JUNGLE BOOK Kids. Students, if available, may also be assigned to work on the crew for the performances on July 25th at 3:00 & 4:30pm.

Students are taught and get to try various scenic painting techniques (spattering, sponging, stippling, scumbling, wet blending, and more) while they create the wild world that JUNGLE BOOK Kids will need. Sure, we’ll use paint brushes, but also sponges, rags, feather dusters, and…hands! Expect some splatters to come home with them—so choose clothes carefully!

Those comfortable with heights will even visit our walk-on grid above the audience (completely safe; it just takes getting used to seeing through the grid to the floor below) and operate a follow-spot. Then, they will collaboratively work to create the lighting for JUNGLE BOOK Kids — Performances on Sat, July 25 at 10:30 AM, Noon, 3:00 & 4:30 PM.
