We welcomed Hattie this week with a "read/sing"
When rehearsing a musical, the director isn’t necessarily present for all rehearsals. Actors begin by learning choreography and the music first before the director stitches all of the pieces together. Technical elements come in even later, such as costume, scenery, lighting, and sound. SpongeBob director Hattie Claire Andres, a Seattle native who works full-time at Seattle Rep as the Producing Associate, was able to join in early rehearsals via zoom and just arrived in Greenville to start staging the epic musical. But before she began staging, the cast did a read/sing – which is essentially reading and singing through the entire show.
